The Signature Brew Americana Showcase aims to bring the best of US and UK
country/americana talent to Blackhorse Road and this first edition gets off to a flying
start.
If the ferocious bluesy rock and roll growl of Jarrod Dickenson's third studio album,
BIG TALK, sounds like a mighty roar of defiance, thats not a design choice or a
marketing decision. The big Texan is settling scores all over town and he means
every f*cking word. After a major label deal-gone-bad threatened to choke off his
career and covid complications left him with a life-long medical condition, this honey-
voiced southern gentleman turned brawler would have certainly been forgiven for
retreating to his Nashville home to lick wounds and maybe write a collection of
introspective self-pity anthems. Instead, the hardships and infuriation of recent years
have only added steel to the resolve of an artist already willing to do it the hard way,
prepared to stand in the face of a music business that shows dwindling regard for the
brand of artistry that first inspired him to pick up a guitar and sing for his life.
Dickenson now exists as a fiercely independent artist, a look that suits him well and
allows his creativity to follow whatever path it damn well pleases.
London-based singer-songwriter, Hannah White, is one of those artists who is
always about the next thing. Having won UK Song of the Year with the goosebump-
inducing 'Car Crash’ at the Americana Music Association UK Awards in 2023,
Hannah’s exciting new album Sweet Revolution is a completely fresh adventure in
her fast-expanding career. The record expands hugely on the outstanding
“Americana noir” ambience of 2022's widely praised About Time, of which Maverick
wrote: “The emotion she conveys in her vocal delivery gives you chills as her words
tug at your heart strings.” Acoustic magazine called White “arresting and wholly
believable. A voice you will want to protect and become besotted with,” while W21
Music wrote of “the restraint, the range, the softness, the clarity...a masterpiece."
The opening single from the new album, 'Chains Of Ours' is infectious with a
percussive mood winning comparisons to a modern-day Fleetwood Mac. Having
supported Ricky Ross and Paul Carrack on recent tours and appearing at major
festivals, Hannah White is sure to delight audiences wherever she goes.
Stevie O’Connor is a multi-award-winning North West-based singer songwriter. With
his style heavily noted as country/americana, Stevie isn’t one to stay within the
‘musical box’ but instead throws the box away. As a result, you can feel and hear the
many influences of his love for multiple genres including southern rock, delta blues
and bluegrass to name a few.
In a busy renaissance of the country genre, Glasgow-based Robyn Red leads the
way as one of the most exciting young talents in the UK – a claim backed up by
numerous accolades including becoming the British Country Music Association’s
Horizon Award 2024 winner. Having already played a number of festivals around the
UK, Robyn will be bringing her band to show off not only her hit singles ‘Like A
Bullet’, ‘Luke Jackson’ and ‘When The Sun Sets’, but also new material likely to
feature in her future debut album.
