Founded nearly 30 years ago, The Mother Hips caught their first big break before they’d even finished college, when legendary producer Rick Rubin signed the band to his American Recordings label. In the decades to come, the group would go on to release ten critically acclaimed studio albums and cement themselves as architects of a new breed of California rock and soul, one equally informed by the breezy harmonies of the Beach Boys, the funky roots of The Band, and the psychedelic Americana of Buffalo Springfield. Praised by Rolling Stone as “divinely inspired” and hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as “one of the Bay Area’s most beloved live outfits,” the group’s headline and festival performances have become the stuff of legend, earning them slots everywhere from High Sierra to Outside Lands alongside dates with the likes of Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Wilco, and The Black Crowes.
Written and recorded through the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, the band’s new album, Glowing Lantern, is a work of great comfort and companionship, even as it grapples with the deep anxiety of these profoundly uncertain times. The songs are weighty, abstract ruminations wrapped in unflagging optimism, bittersweet streams of consciousness delivered with a palpable sense of camaraderie and brotherhood. Glowing Lantern is as collaborative a record as the band has ever made, and it’s impossible not to feel the joy and gratitude radiating out of it like a beacon in the night.

A Statement from Midnight North:
To our dear friends & fans,
Recently we learned that our dear Elliott Peck was diagnosed with a major health issue that will keep her away from the stage for a few months. Elliott has shared her experience in the post below. To do everything we can to support her in her recovery, we are sad to announce that we will not be performing as Midnight North until Elliott is once again healthy enough to join us on stage.
The 4 shows the following weekend (March 7-10 co-headlining with the Mother Hips) will become Grahame Lesh & Friends shows, with Grahame & the rest of MN doing our best to fill the air with musical healing energy. Those shows are March 7 at the Hamilton in Washington DC, March 8 at Brooklyn Bowl in New York, March 9 at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, and March 10 at Middle Ages Beer Hall in Syracuse.
We will have more information on the rest of our scheduled dates in the Spring in the coming days and weeks.

A Statement from Elliott Peck:
Dear friends,
I’m writing to share some difficult news. Last week I was admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe stomach pain. After getting a CT scan, the doctors determined I have a large tumor located in my abdomen. While I’m still waiting for the biopsy results, I will regardless have to have a pretty complex surgery to remove the tumor. Unfortunately this will be putting me on hiatus from touring & local shows while I get through this process & recover. Please send all your positive thoughts & prayers as I work through this difficult time. I deeply appreciate your kindness & support.
