The Helm Family Midnight Ramble is a musical tribute to the founding songbook of Rock and Roll. Born inside the hallowed walls of Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY, the Midnight Ramble has preserved and furthered Levon Helm's legacy for nearly two decades, playing the iconic music of The Band, and Levon Helm.
The Helm Family Midnight Ramble crosses generational and musical lines, featuring an ever-evolving family of musicians. Amy Helm honors her father's penultimate vision for both Levon Helm Studios and the Midnight Ramble - to create a community for musicians to share their art, and "keep it going."
CHAKOUR FAMILY GARDEN
Chakour Family Garden is the musical collaboration of Mitch Chakour, his daughter Alecia Chakour and his son Alex Chakour. All three accomplished and acclaimed artists in their own right, this new project is a coming home, an opportunity to create together again and share their family song book and harmonic traditions.
Mitch Chakour is an arranger, songwriter, vocalist, keyboardist and guitarist. Starting in his father’s gospel band Revelations, he then came up playing with blues greats Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Koko Taylor, Big Mama Thornton, Hubert Sumlin and many others. He served as Joe Cocker’s musical director throughout the 70s and 80s, later touring with the J. Geils band, arranging for various North American symphony orchestras and acting as Music Director for the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts High School, The Majestic Theatre and others. He is also committed educator who has supported the musicianship and aspirations of many young artists who have gone on to successful careers in the arts.
Alecia Chakour is best known for her many collaborations - a celebrated vocalist, percussionist, arranger and writer who connects and uplifts artists across genres and generations. She currently can be seen as a member of the 12-piece rock and soul circus, The Tedeschi Trucks Band and through her vast catalogue of live and recording credits (that more recently include artists such as Cleo Sol, Kevin Morby, Dangermouse & Karen O, Michael Kiwanuka and Lettuce). Additionally, she releases her own music through the moniker Chakourah.
Alex Chakour is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and engineer. After spending many years on the New England circuit in his early years, he moved to New York and toured as the lead guitarist for Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires for six years, producing and engineering in his time off. He has also performed as a member of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Antibalas, Cochemea, Howard, The Eric Krasno Band, Sam Cohen, among others. Currently, Alex tours as a guitarist for Brittany Howard, supporting her Grammy winning album “Jaime.” As a composer and producer he is adventurous, innovative and attentive to detail. He has produced and mixed songs that have appeared on NPR, Stereogum and Vice and have amassed over 11 million streams on Spotify.
