• LabRats

LabRats is a dynamic quintet based in Sacramento, composed of multi-instrumentalists, composers and producers. The band came together out of necessity to unify and bridge gaps between musicians of all types. LabRats challenges listeners’ perceptions of “jazz,” drawing from a wide range of styles and influences, from J Dilla to Sun Ra. At live shows, the band exudes an infectious onstage charm, hypnotizing audiences with colorful synthscapes, syncopated drums and fierce improvisation.

Formed during the pandemic in 2021, the band has established itself as an integral part of Sacramento’s music scene. They curate and host the city’s hippest jam session, “Sunday Sessions,” at the local venue The Torch Club, a well-known hub for musical creatives to perform and network. LabRats tour regularly, performing alongside bands throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The band has received recognition from NPR and the Grammy Awards across three different categories, and has participated in major music festivals in Sacramento and San Jose. LabRats has also collaborated and shared the stage with artists including Kamasi Washington, Talib Kweli, Tower of Power, GZA of Wu-Tang Clan and Braxton Cook.
