Nashville resident and Ontario native Tebey is a platinum-selling artist, award-winning producer and accomplished songwriter with multiple #1 songs in his repertoire of hits. His much-mispronounced name (read: TAY-bay) is of Nigerian descent – his father’s birthplace, but Tebey grew up in the small town of Peterborough and went to high school in Burlington. While enjoying simultaneous success on the football field, he and his father made the decision to move to Nashville in his mid-teens to pursue his music career, while his mother stayed back in Canada to care for Tebey’s brother and sister. This bold move paid off when Tebey signed to BNA Records Nashville (RCA Label Group) in 2002. After a brief period in the recording industry, Tebey pivoted to writing throughout the early 2000’s and only in 2012 did he start to shift the focus back to his artist career. Not a year went by when he didn’t have a top charting radio song, he really hit his stride in 2018 with a series of significant successes including three #1 songs as a writer: a US Billboard #1 with Justin Moore’s “Somebody Else Will”; a Canadian #1 with Gord Bamford’s “Dive Bar” and his first #1 as an artist and writer with his Gold single “Who’s Gonna Love You,” for which he also received a SOCAN award in March 2019. He also co-wrote two additional top 5 radio hits during this timeframe (“Denim on Denim”, certified Platinum, and “Good Jeans”). Overall, Tebey has four official Top 5 radio singles, four Top 10 singles, and five Top 20 singles as a recording artist, and his music and videos have amassed over 115 million streams. As a songwriter, Tebey has earned success on multiple continents with the aforementioned #1 chart toppers; one in the US (Justin Moore), one in the UK (Pixie Lott's “All About Tonight”, also nominated for a Brit Award), and the remainder in Canada. Notable pop artists to have recorded his songs include One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Pixie Lott, Cher, Flo Rida, Smashmouth and — no stranger to the country genre — Justin Moore, Big & Rich, Jimmy Rankin, Emerson Drive and many others all released Tebey-penned tunes. In 2022, Joe Nichols released his song “I Got Friends That Do” featuring Blake Shelton; written by Tebey, Danick Dupelle and Jimmy Thow. Back on the artists side of things, over the past ten years, three of Tebey’s singles have been noted for their substantial spin count, being named Mediabase or BDS Most Played Canadian Country Song of both 2013 and 2014 (“Somewhere in the Country” and “Wake Me Up”), and his Platinum-certified hit, “Denim on Denim”, was the third highest spinning song of 2018 in this category. Tebey’s 2021 album, The Good Ones, is his most successful full-length release to date. The Gold-certified title track from the album featuring Marie Mai reached Top Ten at radio and was performed on the CCMA Broadcast by the duo in 2020. His second single off the album, “Happened on a Saturday Night,” reached Top 10 at national radio and was certified Gold; “Shotgun Rider” also reached the Top 10 at Canadian radio. His single “Song of the Summer” with Irish Superstar Una Healy was featured on BBC Radio2 and made national UK playlists. To wrap up 2021, Tebey released a cover of the classic Darlene Love Christmas hit, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”, accruing over 1.6 million streams and marking his first holiday offering. Tebey’s 2022 EP Sink with the Sun included the first single from the project “What Was I Drinking”, which has accumulated over 4.7 million streams to date, and the title track, “Sink with the Sun” which has garnered over 3.9 million streams to date. Tebey’s first single of 2024, “Hold Your Horses”, was released on January 19th and is closing in on 2M streams. More excitement unfolded in March of 2024, when Tebey’s cover of The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” blew up on TikTok getting millions of views in one day. Capitalizing on this success, a full-length cover was released to DSPs, earning over 3 million streams over the first month of its release (now over 10 million). The song has been featured on Spotify’s Viral Top 50 in six countries, reached number 33 on Shazam’s Global Country Chart, and charted on Apple Music’s Country Chart in 88 countries. The original TikTok video has been viewed over 13.6 million times and over 75 million views over all original videos featuring the song. Tebey followed up with a fantastic country cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” with over 16 million views across his original posts on TikTok and Instagram. Tebey teamed up with fellow Canadian country artist Tenille Arts in September 2024 to release “Hangover At My Place”, marking their first collaborative effort. Tebey followed this up with a country cover of Maroon 5’s “Payphone”, and partnered with the JUNO Awards in February 2025 to release his version of Tate McRae’s “Greedy”. Since then, he has served up a steady serving of singles, including “Smooth Like Vinyl”, “Always Be The One”, “That’s Gonna Leave A Memory”, and “Chevrolaid Back”.
