The Envelope Live: BRAVO FYC Showcase presented by the Consulate of Brazil in Los Angeles

Join The Envelope Live, in partnership with the Consulate General of Brazil in Los Angeles and BRAVO Festival, for a special screening of two short films and one feature-length documentary from Brazil’s BRAVO Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, moderated by The Envelope Editor-in-Chief Matt Brennan. There will be a hosted reception in the theater lobby to follow the screenings.

About the Films:

Amarela (FYC Live Action Short): During the World Cup final, Erika, an Asian-Brazilian teenager, is eager to celebrate Brazil’s victory. As the match unfolds, she faces racism that sparks an inner fight for self-acceptance

Alice (FYC Short Documentary): Set in the surf and skate scenes of Northeast Brazil, “ALICE” follows a trans woman who transitioned within male-dominated spaces. This short documentary follows her attempt to return to the ocean she once shared with her father while navigating grief and reclaiming her identity.

Apocalypse in the Tropics (FYC Feature Length Documentary): When does a democracy end and theocracy begin? “Apocalypse in the Tropics” investigates the increasingly powerful grip that evangelical Christian leaders hold over politics in Brazil. Weaving together past and present, the film holds a mirror up to the rest of the world.
