Levon Helm Studios Presents: The Helm Family Midnight Ramble
with Special Guest Ganessa James
The Helm Family Midnight Ramble is a musical tribute to the founding songbook of Rock and Roll. Born inside the hallowed walls of Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY, the Midnight Ramble has preserved and furthered Levon Helm's legacy for nearly two decades, playing the iconic music of The Band, and Levon Helm.
The Helm Family Midnight Ramble crosses generational and musical lines, featuring an ever-evolving family of musicians. Amy Helm honors her father's penultimate vision for both Levon Helm Studios and the Midnight Ramble - to create a community for musicians to share their art, and "keep it going."

Singer, songwriter, guitar and electric bassist Ganessa James has been writing songs and collaborating with other independent artists for over 20 years. Most recently, she has become a core member of singer-songwriter and activist Allison Russell's project. She currently tours with Allison on vocals, bass, guitar and keyboards. She had the honor of playing bass on Allison's GRAMMY award record 'The Returner'. She is overjoyed to work with Allison and to be a part of the expansive family of musicians in Allison's Rainbow Coalition.
Ganessa got her start on the independent music scene in Brooklyn, where after a brief time playing with local bands she was invited to join artist/activist Saul Williams on a North American tour: playing stages from the Wiltern in Los Angeles to Coachella. This experience sparked the opportunity to work with a series of incredible artists on the local music scene. She has had the honor of playing with Joan as Policewoman, Nona Hendryx, Tamar-Kali, Be Steadwell, and Sinkane. Ganessa began working with Toshi Reagon in 2009 and continues to record and play in a selection of Toshi's visionary projects as part of the BIGLovely family. She is deeply committed to working with other artists and to supporting social justice with her art.
Ganessa is also one half of Onliest, a project co-created with her twin sister Tiffany James. Their performances feature harmony driven duets laced with the impish, spontaneous quality born of a lifelong connection and obsession with music. Ganessa's solo acoustic EP 'Believer' reflects an exploration of personal vulnerability in her songwriter's journey. Inspired by the likes of James Taylor, Donny Hathaway, and Ella Fitzgerald, her Believer EP is a suite of stunningly earnest acoustic love songs. Her original compositions and collaborations are inscribed with a passion for creating connections, and exploring the vulnerability of our own authentic stories. In performance, she seeks to underscore our connection to one another - the revolutionary power that opens up when music resonates inside us all. Ganessa is currently at work on a new album. She is honored to share space here with you tonight.
