~ this is a judgement free dance journey, feel free to express yourself!
~ limit conversation on the dance floor, this keeps the energy flowing (there will be a designated space and time to chat)
~ this is a substance free event
~ no phones, photos, or videos on the dance floor, there is so much magic in full presence
~ we invite you to explore the shoe-less experience of dancing barefoot
Our featured artist for this dance is Joro-Boro!
Joro-Boro was born and raised in Bulgaria.
After moving to New York City, he was offered a DJ residency at the Bulgarian Bar (Mehanata) alongside Eugene Hütz (Gogol Bordello), where he pioneered the Balkan music and Balkan Beat scenes in the United States. He then moved on to become a part of the Brooklyn Underground and an early promoter and producer of Global Bass. He released remixes on a number of international labels. Lately, his interests have shifted to the conscious dance movement and he regularly plays at events like Ecstatic Dance.
Joro-Boro plays Earth Bass - an open format exploration of various musical traditions of celebration and devotion, hip hop beats, and the deep side of bass music. He developed a mixing style that short-circuits cultural flows and circuit bends the archaic with the futuristic, the sacred with the secular. His sets connect to the origins of music: sound energy, archetypal drama, and journey to transcendence.
He has toured with Anna Morgan, Balkan Beat Box, and Filastine and has performed with artists ranging from Omar Souleyman to Questlove.

The depths of Keena Maya's transmissions are incantations, drawing us down into our roots, grounding us into our bodies, and invoking the incandescent deity within us to rise. Her sound, BASS BLISS, weaves deep bass, effervescent organic instruments, and transnational invocations to inspire heart-centered expansion and awaken the feminine energy within us all. Keena Maya, a sound artist, DJ, instrumentalist, and hypnotist, is devoted to creating dance rituals that guide seekers toward a holistic embodied evolution—connecting the self, community, the Earth, and the Sacred. Keena Maya is, so that we may become.

b e i n g - s o u n d is a live electronic project performing Ritual Bass, a collaboration between Keena Maya and Joro-Boro.
b e i n g - s o u n d is rooted in the origins of ritual experience, weaving a variety of sound sources (live, recorded, acoustic, electronic) and exploring the depths of bass sound as a full-body feeling. The minimal aesthetic brings awareness to the experience of sound as being: being as sound and silence, stillness and movement.
b e i n g - s o u n d aims to open us to the everyday experience of the Mystery through listening.
