2024 TD Halifax Jazz Festival Presents Emmylou Harris and Alan Syliboy & The Thundermakers

A 14-time Grammy winner and Billboard Century Award recipient, Emmylou Harris’ contribution as a singer and songwriter spans 40 years. She has recorded more than 25 albums and has lent her talents to countless fellow artists’ recordings. In recognition of her remarkable career, Harris was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008 and earned a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 2018.
Harris is known as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting as for her incomparably expressive singing. Admired through her career for her talent as an artist and song connoisseur, Harris shook up country radio in the 1970s, and established herself as the premiere songwriter of a generation selling more than 15 million records and garnering 14 Grammy Awards, three CMA Awards, and four Americana Awards.
Harris is one of the most admired and influential women in music. She has recorded with such diverse artists as Linda Ronstadt, Daniel Lanois, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, Ryan Adams, Beck, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett and Rodney Crowell. Few artists have achieved such honesty or have revealed such maturity in their writing. Forty years into her career, Harris continues to share the hard-earned wisdom that—hopefully if not inevitably—comes with getting older, though she’s never stopped looking ahead.
A longtime social activist, Harris has lent her voice to many causes. Most passionately to animal welfare. In 2004 she established Bonaparte's Retreat with the goal of rescuing shelter dogs and adopting them into forever homes. To this day, Bonaparte's Retreat continues to save dogs most in need at Metro Nashville Animal Care and Control and at municipal shelters in surrounding counties.
Alan Syliboy grew up believing that native art was generic. “As a youth, I found painting difficult and painful, because I was unsure of my identity.” But his confidence grew in 1972 when he studied privately with Shirley Bear. He then attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, where 25 years later, he was invited to sit on the Board of Governors. Syliboy looked to the indigenous Mi’kmaq petroglyph tradition for inspiration and developed his own artistic vocabulary out of those forms. His popularization of these symbolic icons has conferred on them a mainstream legitimacy that restores community pride in its Mi’kmaq heritage.
Alan still lives and works in Millbrook, NS, where he was born and raised. He creates his art in his studio in Truro, NS.

**General admission tickets for shows at the TD Main Stage are standing room only. This is an open-air venue and all concerts are rain or shine. No cash or credit refunds.**

The TD Halifax Jazz Festival lets you pick your preferred concert experience by choosing from four types of tickets for Main Stage performances:
1. General Admission Ticket - gets you access to the Main Stage site and all our public amenities.
2. Bleacher Ticket (additional $10) - gets you a seat at the back of the performance space. The bleachers offer a clear view of the stage and a comfy spot to take in the show. Specific seats are first-come, first-serve.
Please note: Limited complimentary seating will be available in front of the bleachers. A dedicated accessible seating platform is also available free of charge.
3. Stagefront Seating Ticket (additional $50) gets you a reserved chair right in front of the stage, with a spectacular view of the performance. You can also order beverages for delivery right to your seat.
4. Premium Section Ticket (additional + $60) - gets you access to a space away from the bustling crowd, with a clear view of the stage, select seating, and high-top tables. The section is served by a private bar and washroom. Specific seats are first-come, first-serve.

A Facility Fee of $3.45 will be added at checkout.
19 + for all evening shows at the festival's TD Main Stage located on the Halifax waterfront (ID required).
**If you are under 19 you need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (you will be asked to show ID) and they will be required to be onsite with you and be responsible for your supervision at the festival's TD Main Stage on the Halifax waterfront. This is because of the festival's license to sell alcohol. If the concert is designated 19+ and not at the TD Main Stage, then you are not able to attend.
Subject to capacity, children under 10 may accompany General Admission ticket-holding parents or legal guardians free of charge.
We ask that you do not bring chairs in the evening ticketed shows as they will not be allowed onsite.
